Criminal Impersanation is this a crime?

We decided to play a prank on a friend of mine and put his wife and kids up for sale on a bulletin board in an old rundown laundrymat. We also listed him to be the leader of the local KKK.

I know it sounds bad but we use to prank each other all the time.

Now the owner of the laundry contacted my friend who was pranked and the owner told him that the police should be to see me in a few days for criminal impersanation charges.

Is this an actual case and a crime??

Please let me know asap so I know what I should do. This "crime" was committed in ohio.

Never heard of it...

However, the owner has a right to be upset. This is open to the public, and there may be customers who do not appreciate your sense of humor. He could probably make a pretty good arguement for disorderly conduct, or something similar.

There is currently argument that displaying a noose is a hate crime, a reference to the KKK would not fare any better.

Or.... Maybe your buddies are pranking you back, and put the laundromat owner up to it. That would be funny.

I suggest you apologize to the owner, and not use his board in the future for your pranks.

the owner is just trying to scare you and judging by the question it worked.

Wait, there may be more going on here than you think. So the owner of the laundromat thought your friend was impersonating the leader of the local KKK, and took offense? Wouldn't that mean the laundromat guy knows the local leader of the KKK? How else would he know your friend wasn't it?

It appears, in a lot of states, that is a crime

Quite possibly, depending on Ohio law,you could be charged with criminal mischief, and if your friend and/or family suffered any as a result of your actions you could be liable on a civil level, meaning they could sue you for mental suffering resulting from your prank, which in my opinion went overboard, ultimately it would be up to your friend if he/she wanted to pursue criminal charges.now would be the time to

suck up.
