What's proper in this situation?

My boss recently re-decorated the office.

New paint, pictures on the walls, and new desk sets for all the office staff. (File holders, magnetic bulletin boards, adorable push pins, clips, pen holders, and a bunch of other stuff)

Really cute, trendy stuff, which we loved and gushed over. It really makes the office look great.

BUT

It's not ours to keep. When we leave, it stays.

So, here's my question.

Should we have thanked her?

It's her business, her office, and her stuff.

She was pissed that no one said Thank you.

I feel like I shouldn't have to say thank you. It wasn't a personal gift. We didn't suggest the re-decoration. We weren't involved in the decision making process, or in the actual painting/ decorating. We don't get to keep any of the stuff. I feel like she bought it for herself and we get to use it. No thank you necessary.

Am I wrong?

What's proper in this situation?

A thank you would have been nice. She did provide a pleasant area for you all to work in.

What's proper in this situation?

yes you all were and rude for not thanking her

What's proper in this situation?

You are wrong and rude. It is something for her business in as much as its a bonus for her staff. It boosts moral and shows that she cares about her business and the people in it. Why would you get to keep any of it? That's silly.

You should appreciate a clean, pleasant, nice looking work place. THAT in itself is a gift, you're looking at things in to much of a material way. You're not seeing the value she poured into the place.

What's proper in this situation?

Yes, you are. Office decoration is never the employers' to take away when they leave, but it makes half of their life more pleasant working in a nice, clean, trendy environment which they should learn to appreciate. It is never late, you can thank your boss for nicely redecorrating your working place without burdaining you with all the necessary choices and rearrangements.
